Can you imagine how hard it is to trace hard rock with soft, elusive threads? But we’ve done it in this supreme embroidery, recreating a detail of Gua Tewet Tree of Life cave paintings, located deep in the Borneo wilderness. The detail depicts a hard rock wall which is, though very detailed and beautifully shaded, nothing more than a background to the bigger message of the embroidery. As there, roots of the tree of life spread, roots of ancient clans and families, of culture and art, of society, of life itself. We have recreated this great symbolic image by hundreds of thousands of stiches to present it in all its timeless beauty.
Cave paintings are probably the rarest and most enigmatic forms of human creativity, as no one knows why they were created and what their authors wanted to express. Some of them were visited and touched by only a handful of modern people. Gua Tewet cave paintings and pictograms, being over 10,000 years old, are one of the oldest in the world. They are also known as the Tree of Life and are thought to be related to early human spiritual activities.
Put this embroidered piece of human history into your modern cave.
