This extraordinary embroidery represents a detail of Gua Tewet Tree of Life, one of the oldest known cave paintings in the world. These rocks were touched by humans eons ago, the caves gave them protection and inspiration. And we can even see the touch, as in bottom left corner, there is a partial palm print of these ancient artists – an existential message left for us to find, a human touch stretching through time. We have recreated it with hundreds of thousands of stitches to present it in all its timeless beauty.
Cave paintings are probably the rarest and most enigmatic forms of human creativity, as no one knows why they were created and what their authors wanted to express. Some of them were visited and touched by only a handful of modern people. Gua Tewet cave paintings and pictograms, being over 10,000 years old, are one of the oldest in the world. They are also known as the Tree of Life and are thought to be related to early human spiritual activities.
Put this embroidered piece of human history into your modern cave.
